Study Details Obstacles to Business
Syria Media Report, 18-Jul-08
Syrian businessmen believe corruption, bureaucracy, labour laws and the poorly-educated workforce are among the biggest obstacles to commerce in Syria, according to a survey conducted by the government committee for state planning and the United Nations Development Programme.
The findings of the survey, which looked at the competitiveness of Syria’s economy, were published in the pro-government website Syria Steps on July 14.
The survey was part of a study that identified 21 areas impeding competitiveness including tariffs, trade restrictions, the budget deficit, the brain drain, inflation and poor transparency. It also cited poor internet availability and the limited number of women in the workforce as problems.
