Afghan youth group condemns Danish cartoons
Cheragh is an independent daily run by the Development and Democracy Association.
More than 200 members of the Afghan Youth Association have accused a Danish newspaper of committing blasphemy and have called on the Afghan government to renounce Denmark’s 150 million US dollars in aid. In a letter to the government and parliament, the protesters also urged the government to ban Danish imports. The protesters’ anger is over the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten, which published caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad. They called on the Afghan government to summon the Danish ambassador and lodge a formal protest.
