Iraqi deputy prime minister visits Iran

Dr Barham Ahmed Salih, the Iraqi deputy prime minister, met Mahmood Ahmadi Nazhad the Iranian president in Tehran yesterday. In their meeting, they talked about the situation in Iraq and relations between the two countries. He also met met Hashimi Rafsinjani. In their meeting, Salih spoke of the Iraqi people's long struggle against the Saddam regime, thanking the Iranians for their contribution to his downfall. He also insisted that Iraqis wanted to live in peace with their neighbours.Afterwards, Rafsanjani said that a free and independent Iraq could play an important role in the region.
