Safiya al-Suhail, a member of parliament for the Iraqi National List, has denounced the kidnapping of women in Iraq and asked the government to put an stop to it. She accused the media of ignoring abductions involving Iraqi women, in contrast to the huge coverage when foreigners are kidnapped. Al-Suhail mentioned in particular abductions by criminals where the aim is to hold women to ransom. A senior security source cast doubt on the existence of abductions of women, saying the interior ministry had no records of this or information about it.
