Central Asia: Calls for Equal Access to Schooling

Mehrangiz Tursunzoda reports from an IWPR debate on access to education across Central Asia.

Participants at the event, held in the Tajik capital Dushanbe, heard how children in the different states are hampered from getting an education if they do not have the right documents, if their parents are refugees or migrants, or if they cannot afford the costs.

A common theme reiterated by educationalists at the event was that regional governments should allocate more funding to education, and ensure that vulnerable groups like disabled children and migrants are catered for.

The audio programme, in Russian and Tajik, went out on national radio stations in Tajikistan, as part of IWPR project work funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
