When Russian deputy prime minister Sergei Naryshkin will visit Tajikistan on July 9, he will officially be talking about general trade and economic issues. However, observers believe his visit will focus on the future of Russian involvement in the Rogun hydroelectric dam project.

Until recently, the Russian aluminium company RUSAL was the major investor in this massive construction project, but it was asked to withdraw following disagreements with the Tajik government over the specifications for the giant dam.
