Last week, terrorists killed three journalists for no clear reason but the love of bloodshed. They have also threatened and killed young people who sell newspapers on the street in al-Mansoor and Ameriya districts of al-Karkh. Some weeks ago, they killed eight others for refusing to distribute insurgent leaflets – they had refused to do so because they were afraid of the reaction of American and Iraqi security forces. The current atmosphere is good for the killers and bad for the security forces who have failed to keep the peace. Crimes are becoming widespread while the people suffer. As security deteriorates, journalists keep fighting to tell people the truth, and persist despite killings and corruption. We may not be able to shake the hands of these heroes working for various media outlets, but we salute them and tell them that we are proud of them, and we encourage them to continue with their great work as we pray to God to keep them safe for the sake of the country and its people.
