Iraqi police say three bodyguards were killed in a car bomb attack on a convoy of vehicles in which Industry Minister Fawzi Hariri was travelling. Police said the attack took place at Camp Sara, south of Baghdad. However, Hariri said he was not in the convoy when it was attacked, as he was meeting Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki at the time. In a separate incident, interior ministry sources quoted the Iraqi army as saying 11 foreign militants were killed in clashes in Miqdadiyah, northeast of Baghdad. Nine were Syrians, one was Saudi and one Sudanese.
